As sailing seeks to grow beyond the white male, along comes the not white Pharrell Williams with his mysteriously released new album that appears to be titled Black Yacht Rock Vol. 1: City of Limitless Access.
Widely known for his pop song Happy, the songs definitely finds Pharrell dabbling in the breezy, immaculately produced vibes that defined the yacht rock.
Reports Rolling Stone, “His sweet, signature falsetto sounds sublime in expertly layered harmonies and melds easily with crisp acoustic guitars, dulcet electric keys, buoyant bass lines, and all sorts of tasteful synth flourishes. (If we dare say so, parts of one song, 11:11, even bear a passing melodic resemblance to Steely Dan’s Do It Again.)”
